Memorial Management (Yahrtzeits & Memorials)

The system provides an automatic and respectful solution for commemorating the deceased (Yahrzeit) according to the Hebrew date. The list of deceased is displayed on screens on the day of passing (and nearby days, according to settings), and reminders are sent to families if configured.

How Does It Work?

The system calculates the exact Hebrew date of passing each year, including consideration for leap years (Adar I / Adar II).

  • Automatic Display: Names of the deceased for that day automatically appear in the "Memorials" presentation and main screen.
  • Virtual Candle: A virtual memorial candle is displayed next to the deceased's name.

Managing the Deceased List

You can add deceased individuals through the management interface (Manage Content > Memorials).

Adding a New Deceased Person

  1. Click Add Memorial.
  2. Deceased Details:
    • Full name (Hebrew).
    • Father's name (for display in format "Person son of Father").
    • Date of passing: You can enter a Gregorian date and the system will convert it to Hebrew, or enter Hebrew date directly.
  3. Dedication: Short text that will appear below the name (for example: "May their memory be blessed" or "Donated by the Cohen family").
  4. Photo: (Optional) Upload photo of the deceased.

Screen Display

The system supports several display formats:

  • Daily List: List of all deceased for the current day.
  • Personal Slide: Full slide for each deceased person (alternating in carousel).
  • Monthly Reminder: List of upcoming deaths for the coming month (usually printed or displayed on a separate digital bulletin board).

Halachic Calculations (Technical Note)

The system uses the @hebcal/core library to perform date conversions and anniversary calculations. In case of a death in Adar during a regular year, the system automatically knows to display the Yahrzeit in Adar, and in a leap year - in Adar I or II (or both, according to the custom set in the synagogue).
